Big Bear, CA, August 9, 2016 – The Pilot Fire, which started on Sunday, August 7, grew almost 2000 acres since yesterday. This morning, the fire is currently 6,298 acres with 6% containment. The Hwy. 173 closure has been extended from SR-138 to North Bay Road. Voluntary evacuations have been extended into the Lake Arrowhead area north of Peninsula Road, east of Brentwood Road, and west of North Bay Road. Big Bear, CA, February 17, 2016 – According to the National Weather Service, a storm approaching from the Pacific Northwest today will drive a cold front south across the state on Thursday. The storm will generate strong, possibly damaging winds over the mountains and adjacent desert areas of San Bernardino County. All mountains of Southern California will see strong winds Wednesday night into Thursday. Residential Fire In Hesperia Kills One, Injures Two Others

Hesperia, CA, April 10, 2012, noon – On April 9, at about 2:00am, San Bernardino County Firefighters responded to a residential fire in Hesperia and found a single story home fully engulfed in flames with the roof collapsing. A male resident and his mother were able to get out, they were in the front yard and had been injured. At that time, firefighters were unable to enter the home because the fire was too intense. After the fire was put out they found the body of the resident’s wife inside deceased. At this time it is unknown if there were any working smoke detectors inside the home. The peak time for home fire fatalities is between 11pm and 7am, when most families are sleeping. The San Bernardino County Fire Department reminds you to have working smoke alarms in your home and change the batteries at least once a year. You should also practice an escape plan frequently. Hill Fire in Cajon Pass at 500 Acres – I 15 Southbound Closed

Big Bear, Ca, September 2, 2011, 3:25pm – A wildfire began today at approximately 12:30pm in the Cajon Pass near Oak Hills.  The fire reportedly started in the center divider of the Southbound I-15, near Highway 395.  The fire has since grown to 500 acres, and  mandatory evacuations are being called for homes in the Oak Hills area.   According to John Miller with the US Forest Service the DC-10 air tanker has been called in, and water dropping helicopters are being utilized.  Due to the fire Southbound lanes on the I-15 have been closed at this time between Highway’s 395 and 138.  Smoke may be visible this afternoon West of Big Bear, and is currently visible within a 50 mile radius of the fire.
