Cross & Kids Jam For Strings!

Big Bear, Ca, February 22, 2012, 1:00pm – With statewide budget cuts to education over the last few years, extra curricular programs such as the Big Bear Elementary Strings program have not received funding, resulting in the need to self fund the program.  There will be a fundraiser for the Bear Valley Unified School District Elementary Strings Program and Mihaylo Strings Program on Saturday March 3rd at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center.  Jazz pianist Mike Cross will be joining the strings students to perform “Cross & Kids” which is bound to be a night full of fun and great music with Mike Cross accompanying the kids.  Michael Perry from the Lighthouse Project told KBHR that they want to “Pack the Pac” for this performance.  The arts are an important part of a child’s education, so get your tickets today, and support our local elementary school kids.  The event will take place at 7:00pm at the PAC located at 39707 Big Bear Blvd in Big Bear Lake. Fundraiser for 25 Year Old Kim Fares, Who is Battling Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Big Bear, Ca, February 21, 2012, 5:00pm – The Hacienda Grill will be holding a fundraiser for local 25 year old Kim Fares, who is currently fighting Stage 4 Breast Cancer.  The Hacienda Grill will donate 30% of their proceeds from orders off their regular menu on Wednesday, February 21st, and will also donate 50 cents for each “like” they get on their Facebook page.  Kim moved to Big Bear from San Diego three years ago, and loves snowboarding, the lake, music and dancing.  She was diagnosed in November, and cut her hair in January and donated it before starting chemo.  According to friends, her spirits are high, and her determination is inspiring.   There will also be a raffle with some great prizes  from local businesses with proceeds going to Kim’s medical expenses as...

Big Bear Elementary Strings Program Holds Big Fundraiser

Big Bear, Ca, December 13, 2011, 12:00pm – With statewide budget cuts to education over the last few years, extra curricular programs such as the Big Bear Elementary Strings program have not received funding, resulting in the need to self fund the program.  The program costs 30,000 annually, and serves over 100 young students in the Big Bear Valley.  Many fundraisers for the strings program have been held this year, resulting in about half of the needed funds to keep the program operating.  Tomorrow / Today there will be a fundraiser for the strings program, in which all contributions up to $5,000 will be matched by James Ramos, which could possibly result in $10,000 towards the program.  Ramos is the head of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and also serves on the Community College Board, and the Statewide Board of Education, and is running for County Supervisor for the third district in the 2012 election.  The fundraiser will be held from 6-8pm tomorrow/ today at the home of Dana and Simeon Prophet.  To RSVP, or to make a donation contact Tracy Walton at (909)...

Azteca Grill Holds Fundraiser For Team Jordan

Big Bear, Ca, November 28, 2011, 5:00pm – Team Jordan is gearing up for the last mountain in their quest to climb the seven summits. The team, comprised of 15 year Jordan Romero, dad Paul Romero, and Jordan’s step-mom Karen Lundgren, has already conquered six of the seven summits, and is now getting ready to head to Mount Vincent Massif in Antarctica.  Two years ago the team made two world records when Jordan was the youngest person to summit Mount Everest at the age of 13, and the team was the first family to stand together at the summit of Everest.  In between climbing Mount Everest and gearing up for Antarctica the team has also been checking off states in their quest to climb the highest peak in each of the 50 states.  So far the team has covered most of the upper east coast, and coastal west coast areas.  The Azteca Grill will be hosting a $1 taco fundraiser for the team on Wednesday, November 30th, from 3:00pm to 9:00pm.  The community is invited to support Team Jordan, and to have some tasty tacos in the process.  Attendees will be able to purchase tickets to the Warren Miller movie screening and Team Jordan send off that will take place on Thursday, December 8th.  For more information about Team Jordan go to...

Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club Gives Back

Big Bear, Ca, November 16, 2011, 3:00pm – The Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club has once again given to other non-profit organizations in the valley.  With funds raised from the Big Bear Lake Antique Car Fun Run, the organization was able to donate to 18 other valley organizations.  Each organization received $800 from the car club, which will help the non profits in turn give back to those in need within the Big Bear Valley.  Organizations that received a donation from the Antique Car Club include: Bear Mountain Dog Rescue, Bear Valley Historical Society, Bear Valley Search and Rescue, Citizens on Patrol, Discovery Center of Big Bear, Fuzzy House Slipper Gang, Miss Big Bear Scholarship, Mountain Fun Day- Kiwanis, Steven G.
