Meet George Washington at the Local Library

Big Bear Lake, CA, January 20, 2014 – He was one of founding fathers of the United States, and later this month, he’ll be brought to life at the Big Bear Lake Library by George Washington expert Ted Alexander. Alexander’s career as a costumed presenter began in 1994, when the Pasadena Tournament of Roses invited the history buff to portray George Washington in the parade. That launched a long series of personal appearances and lectures in authentic uniform for libraries, schools, museums, fairs and festivals. He’s also racked up numerous television and video documentary credits as our country’s first president, bringing his knowledge of  the 18th century and the Revolutionary War to such History Channel specials as “Presidential Prophecies” and “An American Thanksgiving.” He’s even made his way onto the Ellen DeGeneres Show. The Military Officers Association of America bestowed their Meritorious Service Award on Alexander for promoting the legacy of such an important historical figure. Washington has proved to be a prescient figure too: Before retiring to his Virginia farm  in 1797, he delivered a farewell address warning citizens against partisanship, saying it “agitated the community.” The Friends of the Library presents “Meet George Washington” on Saturday, January 25 at 2pm at the Big Bear Lake Library. No reservations are required for this free program, but seating is limited....
