County Library to Remodel Big Bear Lake Branch

Big Bear, CA, March 27th, 2016 – The County Library’s Big Bear Branch will undergo a remodel with fresh paint, new carpet, flooring, furniture and some reconfiguration of the existing layout. While the remodel is taking place, the library will temporarily close from April 11 to May 20, 2016.  Customers are encouraged to visit the Running Springs, Lake Arrowhead or Crestline branch libraries during the remodel. The library is set to reopen at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 and the public is invited to celebrate with a ribbon cutting, children’s performer, crafts and more. Bonanza for Book Collectors Set for November 16

Big Bear Lake, CA, November 11, 2013 – Book lovers will want to mark their calendars for November 16th. The Big Bear Lake Branch Library (41930 Garstin Drive) is holding their annual auction of rare and collectible books. Close to one hundred books will be auctioned off, including many collectors’ items and some first editions, art and history titles, classics, literature, and children’s books. The silent auction items will be on display starting at 6:00 p.m.  At 6:30, the live auction begins with returning auctioneer Dan Heiman, assisted by Friends board member Merle Bobzien. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served throughout the evening. The Library Auction is one of the main fundraising events for the Friends of the Library, and profits help buy new books, audio books, videos and magazine subscriptions, as well as helping support children’s programs. An Evening In The Stacks At The Library

Big Bear Lake, CA, April 9, 2013 – The Friends of the Big Bear Valley Library will offer Evening in the Stacks, their annual major fundraiser on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. This year the library will offer an entertaining and educational program featuring Broadway and film veteran Duffy Hudson bringing Albert Einstein to life in his unique one-man show: The Relativity of Albert Einstein. Imagine Albert Einstein explaining the Theory of Relativity, in a fun, exciting way, without mathematics or a knowledge of physics required. The show covers elements of Einstein’s life and humor. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants, and coffee and wine will be served. This is one of the primary fundraisers for the Library and guests will have an opportunity to become a Donor as a Bibliophile with a $100 donation, earning a place on the annual plaque. Calico Site Archaeological Program At Library

Big Bear Lake, CA, March 15, 2013 – The Friends of the Big Bear Valley Library will be offering  an interesting archaeological program on March 23 at 2pm. The program will be presented by Adella Schroth, Curator of Anthropology at the San Bernardino County Museum, and the Project Director of the Calico Mountains Archaeological Site (previously known as the “Early Man site”) for the past five years.  The Calico Site is part of the Calico Mountains Archaeological District in the central Mojave Desert, just 16 miles east of Barstow. The dating of the site is still controversial as is the artifactual constituents. This lecture will introduce the Calico site and address two controversies.  It is up to the audience to draw their own conclusions. The program will be held at The Big Bear Lake Branch Library 41930 Garstin Drive, Big Bear Lake. It is open to the general public at no charge.
