Motorcycle Accident Big Bear City

Big Bear City, CA July 6, 2012 4:00 pm – Today around 1:00 pm a motorcycle traveling eastbound on North Shore Drive was involved in an accident with a white pickup truck traveling west.  The vehicles came to rest where near Greenway Drive on Highway 38.  The California Highway Patrol, Big Bear Sheriffs and local fire authorities responded to the accident scene.  The highway was briefly closed diverting traffic to side streets.   Big Bear Paramedics administrated emergency first aid to the Motorcycle driver who was transported for further medical assistance.  An investigation into this accident was underway, at this time local authorities do not have a cause for the...

Fire Departments Take Step Forward To Becoming One

Big Bear, Ca, December 15, 2011, 12:00pm – The Big Bear Lake Fire Protection District met this morning for their regularly scheduled meeting, and continued to move forward with the merging process.  The board approved the consolidation of fire department administrative services as prescribed within the phase one of the local plan to merge.  The board also authorized a “Cross Hire” concept in which each department will cross hire the neighboring departments employees into part time positions, which will increase the labor pool for both organizations and will be considered the first step towards work force integration.  Fire Chief Jeff Willis expressed his appreciation towards both departments.  The Big Bear City Community Services District met last week, and approved the same items.  This is one more step toward Big Bear City and Big Bear Lake Fire merging into one...

Spots Still Available For Healthcare Provider Certification

Big Bear, Ca, October 19, 2011, 12:00pm – The Big Bear Lake Fire Department will be conducting a Healthcare Provider certification class this Saturday, October 22 for individuals in the healthcare profession such as physicians, nurses, EMTs, lifeguards, etc.  The certification is a step above the CPR/ AED certification, and is required for healthcare professionals.  The training will provide in depth medical and procedural information for those who treat or assist in the treating of patients.  The certification is good for two years.  The October 22 class will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Big Bear Lake Fire Department, 41090 Big Bear Boulevard, Big Bear Lake.  Class size is limited so reserve your seat with a $50 per person fee, which must be paid prior to the class.  Attendees will receive American Heart Association reference materials and a two year Healthcare Provider certification card.   To reserve your spot today call...

Fire Prevention Week

 Big Bear, Ca, October 4, 2011, 1:00pm – This week is Fire Prevention Week, and the San Bernardino County Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association to educate county residents on how to prevent fires.  This year’s campaign focuses on preventing the leading cause of home fires, which include cooking, heating and electrical equipment, as well as candles and smoking materials.  “In 2009, 2,565 people died in home fires. Nearly all of these deaths could have been prevented by taking a few simple precautions like having working smoke alarms and a home fire escape plan, keeping things that can burn away from the stove and always turning off space heaters before going to bed,” stated Deputy Fire Marshal Mike Horton.  Fire officials also advise residents to install smoke alarms in the home, test smoke alarms monthly and replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.  For more information on fire safety visit...
