UPDATE 10/5 – As of 10:00 am this morning, containment is at 95% with full containment expected this evening. Lane Closures in Fawnskin This Week

Fawnskin, CA, August 15, 2016 – The California Department of Transportation is cleaning drains, reestablishing flow in roadside culverts and grading shoulders this week at two locations on State Route 38 near Fawnskin. On Tuesday, August 16, Caltrans will be cleaning drains and culverts, as well as grading the shoulders near North Shore Landing. On Wednesday, August 17, they will be working near the Discovery Center. One way traffic control will be in effect between 9 am and 3 pm on both days. Fawnskin Man Arrested For Posing as a Federal Agent

Big Bear, CA, December 14, 2015 – The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station says a Fawnskin man has been arrested and charged in connection with posing as a federal agent working in the Big Bear area.  Police received a report, Tuesday, December 8, of an unknown male identifying himself as a federal agent, brandishing a firearm and fraudulent law enforcement credentials. An investigation was immediately launched and Big Bear Sheriff’s investigators identified the suspect as 38 year old James Fiddler. Fiddler was contacted during a traffic stop on North Shore Lane in the community of Fawnskin. Fiddler was detained and found to be in possession of two loaded firearms, body armor, a counterfeit federal government identification card and several novelty law enforcement style badges. Armed with a search warrant, police detectives located explosive materials used to manufacture explosive devices. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson Detail responded to the location and took possession of the explosive material. Fiddler was booked into the Big Bear jail on several felony charges including weapon possession, possession of a destructive device, and possession of material with intent to manufacture a destructive device. In addition, Fiddler is charged with misdemeanors: impersonating a peace officer, possession of high capacity ammunition magazines and carrying a loaded firearm in a public place. North Shore Drive will be Closed Thursday for Pro Cycling Time Trial

Big Bear, CA, April 8, 2015 – Big Bear Cycling is proud to host, for the third straight year, the Big Bear Time Trial of the 31st Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic. The Classic has the distinction of being the first race on the 2015 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar. Craig Smith of Big Bear Cycling said, “The North Shore of Big Bear Lake to the town of Fawnskin provides a spectacular setting and is the perfect location to host such a top domestic time trial event; plus along with our Amgen Tour of California Time Trial in May, it solidifies Big Bear’s position as Southern California’s cycling capital.” The Time Trial will cause some traffic issues that motorists should be aware of, however. Highway 38, North Shore Drive, will be closed from Stanfield Cutoff west to the Fawnskin triangle on Thursday, April 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Also, please be aware of heavy bicycle traffic on the southbound lane of North Shore Drive between Stanfield Cutoff and Division from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., as professional riders will be warming up for the races.
