Fawnskin Fire Monday Morning Update

Fawnskin, CA, April 22, 2013 – As of this morning, the Fawnskin Fire, which started Saturday night at approximately 5:30pm just north of Forest Service road 2N12, is at 60% containment and holding at 30 acres.  Fire crews are focusing on mop up and containment lines with 189 personnel assigned to this fire to include two water dropping helicopters to continue to hold and improve lines.  The official cause of the Fawnskin Fire is an escaped...

Fire fighting continues in Fawnskin

Fawnskin, CA, April 21, 2013 – Forest Service fire information officer Bob Poole reports that the Fawnskin Fire is 20% contained. A hoseline is around the entire blaze, and at least a dozen engines are on scene as air assault continues. The fire started at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday just north of Forest Service Road 2N71, between 3N12 and Polique Canyon Road (2N09). The cause is under investigation. Saturday night the fire was moving to the northeast but was fairly stationary as of Sunday morning. The rate of spread has virtually stopped for the time being, thanks to low winds and fire crews’ removal of fuels alongthe perimeter. However, humidity will drop to near 10% later today, so more activity in the interior of the fire is likely as dry fuels are consumed. Residents may see heavier smoke and even flames at that time....

Fawnskin Fire 20% contained at 25 acres

Fawnskin, CA, April 21, 2013 — According to the San Bernardino National Forest Service, the brush fire is at approximately 20-25 acres. There is a hoselay around the fire but firefighters are watching carefully for spot fires. They are reporting 20% containment. Forest Roads 3N14 (Coxey) and 2N71 (Polique Canyon) are closed. Cal Fire reports the cause as an escaped campfire....
