Citizens on Patrol Patrol Fleet Increases With Donation

Big Bear, Ca, January 19, 2012, 4:00pm – The Citizen’s on Patrol for the San Bernardino County, Big Bear Sheriffs Station received a generous donation in October of last year.  The Citizen on Patrol, a safety volunteer organization, was given a 2012 4×4 Jeep Wrangler for their patrol fleet.  The donor is David Stone, owner of Wolf Creek Resort, Bear Creek Resort, and Fireside Lodge in Big Bear Lake.  Stone told KBHR that he made the donation because it was how he was raised, that he was taught to give back to the community.  The new Jeep becomes the sixth vehicle in the COP patrol fleet, allowing for more units to cover more territory.  The Big Bear Valley Citizens on Patrol currently consists of 48 public safety volunteers, who last year collectively put in 19,768 volunteer hours.  According to Tiffany Swantek, Public Information Officer for the Big Bear Sherriff’s Station, the COP members act as the eyes and ears of the Sheriff’s Department, by performing daily neighborhood patrols, conducting vacation checks, help with traffic control and local community events, as well as other duties.  The Citizens on Patrol were very appreciative and grateful for the wonderful...

New (Upgraded) Pool Coming Soon To Big Bear!

Big Bear, Ca, January 17, 2012, 4:00pm – Swim enthusiasts will be happy to know that construction on the pool at the sports ranch off of Highway 38 will begin in early March.  According to Reese Troublefield, General Manager for the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District, enhancements to the current pool will begin in March, weather permitting, and could be completed as early as late May.  Enhancements to the pool will include two lanes for lap swimming, an efficient heating system, an ADA walk in area, and a slide.  Supervisor Neil Derry told KBHR that he is excited about the enhanced pool opening up this summer, and that the County of San Bernardino donated $180,000 to the project.   The Soroptimists of Big Bear Valley raised and donated $380,000 to the pool enhancements in June of 2011.  Funds were raised over a three-year period, with a majority of the donation coming from Man About Town Campaign efforts.  The pool, once reopened will feature swim lessons, and lap swimming designated...

Bowling Family Donates $30,000 to Sugarloaf Park!

Big Bear, Ca, December 29, 2011, 5:00pm – The Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District announced this week that long time residents Ray and Cheryl Bowling along with their children donated 30,000 towards the continued renovation of the Sugarloaf Park.  Their contribution will help bolster the recent improvements including the new tennis court, skate park, picnic shelter, ball field fencing and lighting, basketball court, ADA pathways, and new ADA accessible spectator seating for the ball field.  “We’ve seen so much improvement to Sugarloaf Park in the last couple of years that we figured an additional donation might help complete the effort,” said Ray.  With the large donation further improvements to the park can occur, and will include a new “older kids” swing set, playground wood chips, additional turf areas, fencing, renovation of the existing picnic shelter, and most notably, a quarter mile exercise track complete with fitness stations.  The Bowling Family has donated $30,000 toward this effort, through the Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley’s Youth Foundation.  Foundation President Theresa Reagan-Blood explained, “This is another example of the wonderful families in Big Bear who continue to support not only our kids, but our community in general, and we are proud to continue to partner with the Park District in improving and sustaining parks and recreation programming.  Bowling’s kids have participated in many Park District programs over the years,...

Airport & Community Takes Flight For Doves

Big Bear, Ca, December 23, 2011, 9:00am – The Big Bear City Airport is in the spirit of Christmas and giving this holiday’s season.  During the month of December donation cans were distributed around the valley at Amangela’s, Sugar Pine Bake Shop, the Copper Q, UPS Store, Shelli’s Hallmark, Get the Burger, Diamond Lil’s, Maggio’s Pizza, El Jacalito and the Barnstorm Restaurant.  Donations were also collected at the Airports annual Christmas potluck.  The Big Bear City Airport was able to present Doves, Big Bear’s local domestic violence outreach center, with a check for $500.00.  Airport General Manager Pete Gwaltney, and Airport Board President Gary Steube presented Doves President Sandy Benson with the check, in which she was extremely grateful for.  The Airport plans on “taking flight for Doves” on an annual basis, and helping support...

Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club Gives Back

Big Bear, Ca, November 16, 2011, 3:00pm – The Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club has once again given to other non-profit organizations in the valley.  With funds raised from the Big Bear Lake Antique Car Fun Run, the organization was able to donate to 18 other valley organizations.  Each organization received $800 from the car club, which will help the non profits in turn give back to those in need within the Big Bear Valley.  Organizations that received a donation from the Antique Car Club include: Bear Mountain Dog Rescue, Bear Valley Historical Society, Bear Valley Search and Rescue, Citizens on Patrol, Discovery Center of Big Bear, Fuzzy House Slipper Gang, Miss Big Bear Scholarship, Mountain Fun Day- Kiwanis, Steven G.
