The 43rd Annual Oktoberfest Opens This Weekend

Big Bear Lake, CA, September 11, 2013 —  Southern California’s #1 rated Oktoberfest returns to the Big Bear Lake Convention Center with American’s Hero weekend.  On Saturday, September 14 free admission will be offered to all past and present military and their immediate families, as well as firefighters and law enforcement.  Opening festivities include a special tribute to all those that put their lives on the line.  The festival closes on Saturday, October 26 with the annual costume contests for both adults and children.  The expanded Spaten Bier Garten will offer live entertainment every Saturday night, more seating, and a full line-up of Spaten beer.  Bands include local bands, top California bands including German band The Express, as well as the NEW Mainfloesser Band from Germany. The NEW Mainfloesser performed at the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest in 2011 to a roaring success.  A variety of dance groups will also make return appearances, including the Cripple Creek Cloggers, Danube Swabain Dancers and Big Bear’s own Polka Tots. 27th Annual Mountain Christmas Boutique Starts Friday

Big Bear, Ca, November 23, 2011, 3:00pm – The Big Bear Lake Convention Center will host the 27th annual Mountain Christmas Boutique this holiday weekend, starting Friday, November 25th. For more than two decades, the Mountain Christmas Boutique has been the largest holiday arts and crafts show in the mountains, and features over 60 crafters and artists from throughout the Western United States.  Santa will also be visiting the show each day, and is available for photos and to collect Christmas wish lists.  According to the Big Bear Lake Convention Center, the show offers a quaint shopping experience featuring handmade and one of a kind items and a variety of collectible and unique gifts.  Holiday items, such as wreaths, handmade Santa’s and holiday treats will be available along with handmade hats and scarves, homemade jams and oils, personalized ornaments, vintage clothing, and wire-wrap gem jewelry.  The Mountain Christmas Boutique is located at the Convention Center at the corner of Big Bear Blvd, and Division Drive, and doors open at 10:00am each day.  For more information call 585-3000 or go online at...

Veteran’s Day Ceremony Moved Indoors Due to Possible Weather

Big Bear, Ca, November 8, 2011, 12:00pm – Due to possible cold weather storms this Friday, the American Legion Post 584 is moving the annual Veterans’ Day ceremony at 11:11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, to the Big Bear Convention Center.  Post Commander Bill Wilson said the traditional celebration that honors America’s military veterans was being moved indoors due to forecasts calling for rain and snow on Friday.  “We’ve never canceled a ceremony,” Wilson said, “and Monica and Anthony Marini were gracious to literally open their doors to the convention center so we can again salute our military veterans.”  County Supervisor Neil Derry, a former Marine who served in the first Gulf War, will be a guest speaker and Post Commander Wilson will read letters from area children to service men and women. The American’ Legion’s Color Guard will post the colors of each of America’s services, and veterans will be invited to stand with the flags of their branch of service.  All Big Bear Valley residents are invited to join with the American Legion and city officials in this annual recognition of America’s veterans.  The Convention Center is at 42900 Big Bear Blvd. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m for the ceremony.  For more information, contact the American Legion at...

Oktoberfest Gives Back to North Shore Christian Pre-School at Local’s Night!

Big Bear, Ca, October 5, 2011, 9:00am- This Friday night the Big Bear Lake Convention Center will host Local’s Night at Oktoberfest starting at 6:00pm.  Every year on local’s night Oktoberfest gives back to a community organization.  In previous years proceeds were given to the Mom & Dad Project and the Big Bear Valley Historical Museum.  This year North Shore Christian Pre-School will receive proceeds from the night’s admissions. The North Shore Christian Pre-School has been in operation since 1981 and has provided early child development education for more than 1,000 Bear Valley children over the years.  “We offer a well-rounded educational program that includes math, science, language development, Bible studies and socialization,” said Patrice Carlisle, the school’s Director.  Local’s Night festivities will feature a live authentic band from Frankonia, Germany, the Big Bear Lake Polka Tots, and all the traditional ongoing events including log sawing, and stein holding contest.
