Community Gardens Project Continues Successful Lecture Series

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 2, 2013 — The Community Gardens Project is focusing their next set of educational workshops on keeping food crops healthy, and how to then store and prepare their homegrown fruits, vegetables and herbs . The workshops are FREE and open to the public at the Community Gardens on Fox Farm Road behind CVS. Participants should bring their own chair and beverage. Schedule: July 6th, 10:00 a.m. Cooking with Rhubarb—Learn a delicious and easy new recipe for turning the easy to grow rhubarb into something wonderful to eat. Presented by gardener and chef Nancy Clark. July 13th, 10:00 a.m. Heirloom Seeds—Pete Pothier shares the joys of using heirloom seeds,  where to find them, and the difference between heirloom and ordinary seeds in his presentation,  The Right Time of Year for Heirloom Seeds. July 20th, 10:00 a.m. Tired of Fighting Gophers?—Local pest control expert Mike Nolan provides some interesting ways to thwart gophers and other critters without poisons. Share your success stories with others, too. July 27th, 10:00 a.m. A Healthy Garden—You’ve planted your radishes, lettuce, and beans; now what? Learn how to care for and nurture your crops for the best harvest this summer and fall. Presented by Robbie Bos.
