Reusing Recycling and Art at R&R Rant and Rave

Big Bear Lake, Ca May 14, 2011 12:00 pm – This weekend, Big Bear’s upscale vintage clothing and collectibles store, R&R Rant and Rave reopens in a new location, remade and renewed.  Last year, owner Sally Sherlock thought Rant and Rave would be a weekend summer-only store, open from May until November.  The idea grew out of Sally’s work helping people clear their homes of clutter.  Instead of throwing away good quality items, she opened the store and offered collectibles, jewelry, and almost new clothing for resale.  Broken and chipped nicknacks and dishes, Sally used in her pique assiett pieces, and she held classes in this mosaic art form at the store.  After a successful season, Sally was often asked when she would be opening again.  This spring she found a good location next to the Triangle Market on Moonridge Road and decided to open year-round, expanding the art classes.  This year classes include drawing and painting, art quilting, beaded jewelry, embroidery, and remade clothing.  R&R Rant and Rave is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays, 11 am to 7 pm, and Sundays 12 to 4. The store opens this weekend with a good supply of vintage jewelry, cast iron furniture, aloha shirts, light jackets, and flannel shirts.  “Not everything is vintage” says Sally, “but everything is very cute.” [audio:http://kbhr933.com/wp-content/uploads/SP30728.mp3|titles=R&R Rant and Rave...

Snowshoes Paddleboards and More at North Shore Trading

Big Bear, Ca March 18, 2011 5:00 pm – Big Bear is a wonderful place to play outdoors.  Across the lake in Fawnskin is a great place to get your gear for outdoor activities, the North Shore Trading Company.  For winter sports, the store carries both high tech snowshoes and traditional designs, beautiful wooden sleds and antique style toboggans.  When the weather warms up, they have a full line of stand up paddleboards, kayaks, and beautiful, lightweight wooden canoes.  If you need a canoe for your home instead of for the lake, North Shore Trading has classic cedar and mahogany bookcases, coffee tables, and other furniture in a canoe motif.  The store carries boots, jackets, and beautiful sweaters for winter wear, sandals, shorts, and paddle sports clothing for the summer.  Owners Jim and Janet Dooley can set you up for a fly fishing trip with Big Bear Fishing Adventures or for canoe, kayak, or paddleboard lessons on the water.  In July, North Shore Trading Company hosts the Big Bear Paddlefest, 2 days of clinics, races, and a paddle sports expo.  If you’re looking for outdoor clothing or equipment, a fishing, boating, or snowshoe adventure, North Shore Trading Company is a short trip to the north shore of Big Bear Lake.  Call 866-3414 or go to gopaddleacanoe.com for directions and more information.
