Big Bear Valley CERT Activated

Big Bear Lake, CA, February 16, 2013 – On February 7, 2013 Big Bear CERT members were activated by the San Bernardino County Fire Office of Emergency Services.  There were 51 active CERT members who responded to the activation.  Their main duties were to support the Bear Valley Unified School District.  CERT was asked to stand down the next day since the schools were closed.   McKenzie Simmons, CERT President, has expressed her appreciation for the overwhelming response. The objective of the Big Bear Valley Community Emergency Response Team is to provide public education, training and opportunities for volunteers to support community and family safety.  CERT members are trained in disaster preparedness with skills like light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, fire safety, first aid, CPR, and much more. Installation Of Big Bear Valley CERT Officers

Big Bear City, CA, August 2, 2012, noon – The Big Bear Valley Community Emergency Response Team recently elected their new Executive Board for 2012-2013. The President is McKenzie Simmons, the Vice President is Tina Nazarian, Yomar Cleary is the Secretary and Sharon Strandberg is the Treasurer. Michael Ramirez from the Office of Emergency Services installed the new board and presented 23 CERT members with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.  The awards included a letter from President Obama, a personalized Certificate and a Presidential Service Award lapel pin for their many volunteer hours. The Community Emergency Response Team is a group of community-based volunteers that responds to emergency situations in the Big Bear Valley in times of disaster. CERT members can give critical support to first responders, and provide immediate assistance to victims. Community Emergency Response Team Meeting

Big Bear Lake, CA, March 19, 2012, noon – The Big Bear Valley Community Emergency Response Team (BBV-CERT) will have its  first meeting of the year on Monday, March 26, 2011.  The meeting will start at 6:30pm at the Bear Valley Senior Center in Big Bear Lake.  The training will be reviewing how the Big Bear Valley is divided into four Divisions, and within each of the Divisions are neighborhood teams. Attendance is open to all CERT members and any Big Bear Valley residents interested in learning more about CERT and its activities. All members will receive a CERT manual on a CD with all the Big Bear Valley CERT information and forms. The Big Bear Valley Community Emergency Response Team is a community based group of volunteers that in times of disaster are prepared to respond to emergency situations in the Big Bear valley, fanning out in their neighborhoods, assessing damage, shutting of any potential gas or water leaks, and assisting with emergency services.
