Big Bear, CA – Over the last several years California has experienced abnormally dry conditions. These conditions have fueled wildfires that are challenging our natural resources. The Natural Resources Conservation Service has federal funding for forestland owners that are experiencing dead trees, trees threatened by beetles and other pests, and thick understory that poses wildfire risk. Big Bear, CA, August 7th, 2016 – The Pilot Fire started at about 12:10 pm on Sunday August 7 near the Miller Canyon OHV area off of Highway 138. The fire is currently 1,000 with no containment.   HWY 173 Closed between SR-138 and Arrowhead Lake Road, Hwy 138 closed from Old Mill Road to 173. There are currently 350 firefighters assigned to this fire, including 30 engines, 6 crews, 5 dozers, 8 helicopters, 7 air tankers, including the VLAT assigned. CAL FIRE Concludes Illegal Fireworks Interdiction Operation

Big Bear, CA, June 26th, 2016 – During the course of this previous weekend, CAL FIRE law enforcement conducted a multi-agency fireworks seizure operation. The operation resulted in the confiscation of 25,406 pounds of illegal fireworks. Additionally, 195 contacts were made and 51 misdemeanor citations were issued. A total of 2 felony arrests and 2 DUI arrests were made during the operation. “There is no excuse for breaking the law when it comes to fireworks. SMALL VEGETATION FIRE IN BIG BEAR CITY Quickly Brought Under Control by Local Resources

Big Bear, CA, June 5th, 2016 – A small vegetation fire occurred early in the morning, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Greenway Drive and Pioneer Lane in Big Bear City. The fire occurred approximately 300 yards off of Pioneer Lane and is estimated to have burned just over an eighth of an acre.
