Asst. Chief Mills Heads to Bay Area

Big Bear City, CA, February 7, 2014 – Mark Mills is trading in the title “Assistant Fire Chief” for “Fire Chief.” After his last day with the Big Bear Fire Department on February 21, he’ll head north to San Anselmo for his new position with the Ross Valley Fire Department. At Tuesday’s Fire Authority meeting, Fire Chief Jeff Willis highlighted Mills’s accomplishments during his seven years of service in Big Bear. They include completing his Bachelor Degree in Fire Science, establishing an Internship Program for fire academy students at Victor Valley College, and obtaining $700,000 in grants for the Big Bear Fire Departments. He also achieved Executive Fire Officer certification through the National Fire Academy, and Chief Officer Designation through the California State Fire Marshal’s Office. Mills is continuing his professional development by training to become an All-Hazardous Division Group Supervisor, and working on a Master’s degree in Public Administration. Chief Willis stated, “Mark has been a true asset to the Big Bear Valley and its fire agencies.  His gain is our loss, and we wish him all the best in this next chapter of his life.”...

Lifesaver Ribbons Awarded

Big Bear Lake, CA, February 15, 2013 – Recently, Chief Jeff Willis recognized six firefighters with their Lifesaver Ribbons at the Big Bear Fire Authority meeting on February 5, 2013.  They are Joey Webb, Luke Wagner, Brian Parham, Andrew Crane, Brandon Willis, and Jim McDaniel.  The firefighters responded to a man down call at the Tennis Ranch during the month of August last year.  Assessment of the gentleman indicated no signs of life and no bystander CPR in progress.  Chest compressions and ventilation were initiated, medications administered, and cardiac shock was given via an automatic external defibrillator. The patient was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for stent surgery. The gentlemen is doing well and is planning a trip to the Big Bear Fire Department where he will have lunch with the firefighters who saved his...
