Amgen Tour of California Interested in Big Bear Lake Return

Big Bear, CA October 26, 2015 – The Amgen Tour of California officials tell local organizers that Big Bear is looking good for a 2017 return. Kristen Klein, President of Amgen Tour stated “Big Bear Lake is a very important partner for the Tour.  We have enjoyed an outstanding relationship with the City, as we have hosted three stages in the event’s 10 year history. The community support, spectacular scenery and spectator interest make Big Bear Lake an ideal location.” While the community awaits the return of the Amgen Tour of California, professional and recreational road cycling events are again being planned in and around Big Bear for 2016. The five stage Redlands Bicycle Classic is once again in discussions to host it’s Time Trial stage in Big Bear in April and the week long Big Bear Cycling Festival and 7th Annual Tour de Big Bear will host over 2000 recreational riders in August, 2016. Road Reminder: Partial Closure Scheduled Thursday

Fawnskin, CA, April 2, 2014 – Big Bear Cycling is hosting the Big Bear Time Trial of the 30th Redlands Bicycle Classic, the season opening event for the National Race Calendar and the United States domestic road cycling racing season. The organization is grateful for the community’s cooperation in the support of professional cycling. Highway 38/North Shore Drive will be CLOSED to vehicles on Thursday, April 3, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., between Stanfield Cutoff to the Fawnskin downtown triangle. The road will be OPEN to motorists between Stanfield Cutoff and Division, but from 9:00am–noon, but the southeast-bound lane will be crowded with riders warming up for the races. The East Boat Ramp will be completely closed for boat launching on Thursday, but as a consolation prize, free launching will be offered at Big Bear Marina for this day only. Spectators are welcome to park in the North Shore Elementary School parking lot, cross at the crosswalk, and walk to the race area via the Alpine Pedal Path. Bike Organizations Cycle Money Back Into Community

Big Bear Lake, CA, December 10, 2013 – Big Bear Cycling President Craig Smith announced this week that his organization and the 2013 Tour de Big Bear will invest a combined $35,000 into local cycling projects next year.  Tour de Big Bear had already committed over $50,000 in funding over the past two years. Funding will benefit the following: Phase II repairs in the Alpine Pedal Path Improvement Project New Alpine Pedal Path trailhead and etiquette signs Scenic Bike Loop Signage Program for Big Bear Lake Loop Free Valley Cycling/Trails Maps for visitors and visiting cyclists Phase II of 300+ Mountain Trail Signs for the South Shore Trail Network Village Bike Racks and Bike Repair Station Hosting a Big Bear Time Trial for the 2014 Redlands Bicycle Classic Five bikes for the Big Bear Cycling Bike Scholarship Program As the largest sporting event in Big Bear Lake and one of the leading recreational rides in Southern California, Tour de Big Bear 2013 attracted major sponsors and 1600 visiting riders. But with each rider’s entourage taken into account, the economic impact was even greater. Bike club presents kids’ cycling extravaganza

Big Bear Lake, CA, May 10, 2013 – The second annual Big Bear Children’s CycleFest is scheduled for Saturday, May 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Big Bear Sheriff’s Office. This event is presented by  to help keep kids safe on the road. It includes free helmets, helmet inspection and fitting, free bike inspections and presentations on bike safety and handling.
