Big Bear Welcomes Tour of California Back!

Big Bear, Ca, November 3, 2011, 3:30pm – Big Bear will be a host city for the 6th stage of the race.  The route will once again be from Palmdale to Big Bear, however the exact route is unknown at this time. The Big Bear Cycling Association, which emerged during the 2010 Amgen Tour of California, has since developed into a strong organization with more than 120 members.  Big Bear has also become a training ground for professional cycling teams, with the New Zealand pro team Pure Black training in the Big Bear Valley earlier this year.   The Tour of California is set to come to Big Bear on May 18th for the Big Bear Climb.  The finish line will once again be at Snow Summit, with vendors, and a lifestyle fair, and ample room for...

Big Bear Once Again Chosen As Host City For Amgen Tour of California!

Big Bear, Ca, November 3, 2011, 8:00am – Earlier this morning it was announced by AEG that Big Bear once again will be a host city for the Amgen Tour of California.  This is the second time in three years that Big Bear has been chosen to be a host city for the tour, which draws audiences world wide.  Big Bear will be a host city for the 6th stage of the race.  The route in which cyclists will take to get to Big Bear has not yet been announced. City Applies To Be Host City For Amgen Tour of California 2012

UPDATE: August 30, 2011.  According to Rick Bates, Director of the Event Resource Office, the City of Big Bear Lake should receive a response to their proposal to host the 2012 AMGEN Tour of California by the end of September.  Big Bear, Ca, August 29, 2011, 12:00pm – The City of Big Bear Lake has submitted a proposal to AEG to be a host city for the 2012 AMGEN Tour of California.  The Tour of California is a professional road cycling race that has been called the Tour de France of America.  In 2010 Big Bear was host to the queen’s stage, known as the hardest stage in tour, and was seen both state and world wide.  Thousands of people came to Big Bear for what was called the Big Bear Climb, and since the event cyclists have come to Big Bear from all over the world to train at altitude.  This spring, Pure Black Racing, a professional cycling team from New Zealand spent two weeks in Big Bear training, and plan on returning next year.  The proposal to AEG includes different route possibilities, offering organizers the choice of coming up one of our three routes, through highway 38, highway 18 the back grade, or highway 18 the front grade.  The proposed finish line for the race would be at Snow Summit, as it was in 2010.  The race...
