Over 1100 Bicycle Riders in Big Bear Tour

Big Bear Lake, CA August 3, 2012 4:00 pm –  Bicycle riders from all over Southern California are arriving in Big Bear today to participate in the Tour de Big Bear.  The numbers have grown substantially from the modest beginnings during the May 2010 Tour of California which ended in Big Bear at Snow Summit.   At last count 1125 riders have signed up.  The roads around Big Bear will fill with riders Saturday morning August 3 as many groups will begin ridding at 7:00 am and the final riders finishing the 100 mile ride could be on the road until sometime in the afternoon. Please be aware, dive with caution and share the road with our visiting...

Big Bear, Ca, November 3, 2011, 3:30pm – Big Bear will be a host city for the 6th stage of the race.  The route will once again be from Palmdale to Big Bear, however the exact route is unknown at this time. The Big Bear Cycling Association, which emerged during the 2010 Amgen Tour of California, has since developed into a strong organization with more than 120 members.  Big Bear has also become a training ground for professional cycling teams, with the New Zealand pro team Pure Black training in the Big Bear Valley earlier this year.   The Tour of California is set to come to Big Bear on May 18th for the Big Bear Climb.  The finish line will once again be at Snow Summit, with vendors, and a lifestyle fair, and ample room for...

Big Bear Once Again Chosen As Host City For Amgen Tour of California!

Big Bear, Ca, November 3, 2011, 8:00am – Earlier this morning it was announced by AEG that Big Bear once again will be a host city for the Amgen Tour of California.  This is the second time in three years that Big Bear has been chosen to be a host city for the tour, which draws audiences world wide.  Big Bear will be a host city for the 6th stage of the race.  The route in which cyclists will take to get to Big Bear has not yet been announced. Peak To Peak Started Their 5 Day Journey To Mammoth Today

Big Bear, Ca, October 5, 2011, 12:00pm – This morning over 40 cyclists took off from the Bear Mountain parking lot, and will make their way to Mammoth Lakes, Ca over the next five days.  Peak to Peak, as the event is called, is a fundraiser for the U.S. Adaptive Recreation Center, which allows children and adults with disabilities to face challenges and develop important skills through programs in the summer and winter months.  The five day journey will have participants going over two mountain ranges, for 335 miles of riding.  So far the cyclists have made it down past Lucerne Valley and are on their way to Barstow, where they will overnight tonight.  Tomorrows ride will be the longest, taking the riders through Kramer Junction and overnighting in Ridgecrest.  On Sunday, the group will arrive in Mammoth Lakes, California, and weather is expected to be in the high 50’s for their arrival.  The riders do have a support crew of vehicles that carry their personal belongings, and tents along the way, and also provide mechanical support and food.  Each rider raises $1500 for the Adaptive Recreation Center.  Local’s participating in the fundraiser include Gary Stuebe, Kathy Portie, and Michelle...

Big Bear Represents in Vegas at Interbike & Cross Vegas!

Big Bear, Ca, September 16, 2011, 12:00pm – Wednesday September 14th was the kick off of the cycle cross season in Las Vegas.  Cycle Cross is a form of bicycle racing in which riders ride on dirt, grass, pavement, and have to go over barriers, normally resulting in cyclists jumping off their bike, and jumping over the barrier, or bunny hopping over the barriers with their bike.  Cross Vegas, the kick off race of the season is a unique event as it doesn’t just have pro men and women’s races, it has a wheelers and dealers category which allows industry professionals to race together.  This year four people from Big Bear competed including Casey, Cameron and Evan Williams, and Paul Romero.  The oldest two Williams brothers Casey and Cameron recently signed on with a new team for Cycle Cross season: team SDG Felt, while younger brother Evan competed in his first Cross Vegas race for Bear Valley Bikes.  Adventure racer Paul Romero also competed in his first cross race for Hammer Nutrition.  Casey Williams started towards the back of the pack in the race and had to pass close to 100 people to get to the front of the pack.  Casey, who is 17 years old, put up a strong fight against other industry riders, and came in 4th overall.  Cross Vegas is such a popular and well attended...
