Off-the-cuff remarks sometimes lead to prizes

Big Bear Lake, CA, May 10, 2013 – A member of Big Bear’s award-winning Toastmasters Club, Bearly Speaking, has won a division-wide Speech Contest. Terri Schauer will now represent part of the Inland Empire at a “Table Topics” competition at Pechanga Resort  & Casino in Temecula on May 18th. The contest judges a speaker’s ability to answer a question on the spot and deliver a 1- to 2-minute speech. Schauer has won at the club, area and division levels by creating an impromptu speech on questions ranging from the Great Recession to books becoming obsolete and the purpose of life. Those interested in improving their own public speaking skills are welcome to stop by Bearly Speaking Toastmasters, a President’s Distinguished Club. Meetings are the first and third Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at Keller Williams Realty, 42149 Big Bear Boulevard at the corner of Fox Farm Road in Big Bear Lake.  Please enter through the glass door off the outside deck and go upstairs to the conference room. BEARLY SPEAKING TOASTMASTERS LAUNCHES YOUTH PROGRAM

Big Bear Lake, CA, October 17, 2011, 8:00am – Big Bear’s Toastmasters Club, “Bearly Speaking”, is sponsoring its first Youth Leadership program for students in the Big Bear Home School Group. Developed by Toastmasters International, the eight-week program is not in competition with school programs or courses, or other established youth projects. Instead, it’s a supplement to these programs, providing emphasis on specialized speaking and leadership skills and individual needs. Participants learn to overcome nervousness when speaking before an audience, organize and present ideas logically and convincingly, listen carefully to others’ ideas, and offer advice to help others improve their speaking and leadership skills. Participants increase their self-confidence as they learn. They also make new friends and have fun. For more information on how to start a Youth Leadership program in your organization, contact Bearly Speaking Toastmasters at 866-2819.
