Healthcare District Seeks New CFO

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 23, 2013 – The Bear Valley Community Healthcare District (BVCHD) has begun recruitment for a new Chief Financial Officer, following the resignation of Rudy Shutta. In addition to working as the CFO, Shutta has acted as the interim CEO twice and for the past several months had been working on the budget to keep the Brenda Boss Family Resource Center on track.  Now. after seven years with the District, Shutta is moving to a lower elevation for medical reasons. CEO Raymond Hino stated, “This District owes Rudy a huge debt of gratitude that it can never repay for the years of service that he has given.” While the District searches for a permanent replacement, Joe Demont will serve as the Interim CFO. Hino said that Demont’s work as CFO of the Tehachapi Hospital helped make it into a very pro?table critical access hospital. A BVCHD spokesperson says they anticipate several quali?ed candidates to apply for the permanent CFO position....

Healthcare District Hires Permanent CEO

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 3, 2013 – The Bear Valley Community Healthcare District Board of Directors has announced Raymond Hino as the permanent CEO for the District. Hino has been acting as full-time Interim CEO since January. Board President Barbara Willey commented, “Ray’s extensive background and experience in healthcare, specifically rural healthcare, has prepared him to tackle the challenges facing our district both now and in the future. His experience is exactly what this district needs and I believe he is the right person to make the changes we require, while providing long-term stability for the district.” Hino brings to his work over 30 years experience in healthcare and an extensive background in Rural District California Hospitals. Since joining the district, he has supported and led various departments in accomplishing a significant number of critical items, such as: • Starting the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) designation process, which could bring an additional $400,000 annually • Completing (and now implementing) a Financial Plan of Corrections, which is resulting in $1,500,000 in cost reductions • Bringing all doctor contracts up-to-date and in compliance • Leading the first Financial Summit for the district to add transparency and gain community input on how the district functions • Bringing back a General Surgeon to provide a much needed service and increase revenue • Supporting the implementation of a new hospital computer system and electronic medical system to improve...

Surgeon returns to Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake, CA, May 23, 2013 – General Surgeon Dr. Arturo T. Santos MD FACS, has returned to the mountain, seeing patients in Big Bear Lake at Dr. Mike Norman’s office by appointment.  He will be performing surgeries at Bear Valley Community Hospital on an elective basis. Dr. Santos received his medical education at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, the Philippines.  He trained and completed his General Surgery residency at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in New York and at St. Joseph Medical Center in Maryland. Health Center extends hours

Big Bear Lake, CA, May 1, 2013 –  The Bear Valley Community Healthcare District’s Family Health Center (FHC) is about to become more accessible. Starting May 6, 2013, they are extending the midweek evening hours to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The extended hours have become necessary to meet the ever increasing needs of the community. BVCHD clinics have experienced a 26% growth in patient volume over the past two years — consistently seeing between 1,100 to 1,500 visits per month combined.
