Mom & Dad Project Receives Grant to Provide Free Car Seats

Big Bear, CA, January 26, 2017 – In August of 2016, Bear Valley Community Healthcare District’s Mom & Dad Project applied for a grant to provide car seats to help parents and caregivers abide by the new car seat law effective January 2017. Big Bear Lake, CA, July 29, 2016 – Bear Valley Community Healthcare District is proud to announce that they have been the first agency in San Bernardino County awarded funding from First 5 San Bernardino to implement the Reach Out and Read Program. The program is a collaborative effort between two of the Healthcare District’s departments, The Mom & Dad Project and the Family Health Clinic. Craig Brewster – 2015 Man About Town

Big Bear, CA, May 18, 2015 – On Sunday evening, the Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley’s 2015 Man About Town Campaign came to an end with a Western Ho-Down at Northwood’s Resort. This years theme was “Charging Forward for Women’s Health” and for the last six weeks, Mike Kostiuk, Rob Robbins, and Craig Brewster have been holding events to raise money to support local women’s health programs including Soroptimist’s annual mammogram program. The skits performed at the finale were especially funny this year with the men on Mike Kostiuk’s team dancing around in cowboy boots and nighties. Truly a sight that won’t soon be forgotten. Hino Resigns as CEO of Bear Valley Community Healthcare District

Big Bear Lake, CA – It was announced by Sara Russ the Hospital Board President, that Raymond Hino, Bear Valley Community Healthcare CEO has submitted his resignation effective on October 17, 2014. In a written statement Hino said “I want the entire Board to know that I am very appreciative to each of you for giving me the opportunity to lead this organization for the past 21 months.” Hino also explained that he  accepted a new C.E.O. position in Northern California. “This is a rare opportunity to open a new hospital from the ground up within driving distance of my home in Mendocino where my wife has lived to take care of an aging parent,” Hino added, “It was a difficult decision to leave Bear Valley Community Hospital because I love this hospital, the community, and I have made so many friends here”  Board President Russ said, “Ray was the right person for CEO at Bear Valley Hospital when he agreed to come on board in 2013.” According to Russ, he was the leader the District needed during a critical time. “Not only did Ray successfully eliminate a $3 million deficit in two years, he also led the District to achieve our critical access hospital designation, establish our new swing bed program, and helped pass the recent parcel tax that will provide $11 million in funding to the District...

Election Update: Candidates Added to November Race

Big Bear Lake, CA, August 15, 2014 – The statewide general election is November 4, 2014, and voter information guides will be mailed out the first week of October. The Registrar of Voters updated their records overnight to include additional candidates for the Big Bear Airport District (see full list below). The ballot will include open seats on six local governing boards: the School District, the Airport District, the Healthcare District, the Municipal Water District, the Community Services District and the Big Bear Lake City Council. Some incumbents are running uncontested. Even with the deadline for candidates being extended to August 13th, for example, no challengers filed paperwork for the City Council seats–the first time that’s happened in 20 years. That leaves an uncontested race for incumbents Dave Caretto, Randy Putz and KBHR’s Rick Herrick. City Clerk Cheri Haggerty said the Council will hold a Special Meeting on  August 19 at 4:15 p.m. to decide whether to appoint the three by acclimation or still proceed with an election.
