Airport Provides Space for Food Distribution Program

Big Bear, Ca, November 29, 2011, 5:00pm – The Big Bear City Airport has opened its doors and is providing the AARP/ Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino’s local food distribution, a place to distribute food this month.  The program that normally runs its distribution program out of the Senior Center had trouble finding a space this month due to the holiday season, and the wide array of events going on in the valley.  Airport General Manager Pete Gwaltney decided to provide the program with a space to use on distribution day: Monday, December 19th from 12pm to 2pm, for free.  The program provides over 65 families in need in the Big Bear area with food on a monthly basis.  According to Big Bear City Airport Public Relations Director Cindy Venuto Chundak, Rick Samuelson and his wife help run the distribution, and really care about the community, so the airport was happy to help.  For more information about the food distribution call Samuelson at...

HEAP Assistance Processing Scheduled for November 29th

Big Bear, Ca, November 25, 2011, 4:00pm – Bear Valley Electric Service is once again offering HEAP assistance application processing scheduled for Tuesday, November 29th.  Starting Tuesday morning at 9:30am, applications for HEAP, which stands for the Home Energy Assistance Program, will be accepted for the first 30 in line, another 20 applications will be processed at 1:00pm at the BVES offices located at 42020 Garstin Drive in Big Bear Lake. HEAP is offered to low-income families and, those who qualify, receive financial aid to pay for utility bills, gas service, electric or propane. Those applying for HEAP are asked to bring the following: current gas and electric bills or, for propane, a current invoice with account number; rental agreement or mortgage statement; California picture ID and Social Security card; and employment verification, including pay stubs for all prior 30-day periods for all household members. Kiwanis Club Celebrates 28th Year of Giving To Kids

Big Bear, Ca, November 10, 2011, 8:00am – This winter season the Kiwanis Club of Big Bear Valley  will once again be collecting toys, clothing, and bedding for children in the Big Bear area.  Gifts for Kids, which is in its 28th year of giving to the community’s under privileged children, will be collecting donated gifts for children, from newborns to 12 year olds, and distribute them valley wide to families in need.  Last year 320 children received gifts from this program in the Big Bear Valley.  Donation barrels will be placed all over the valley at various businesses starting next Monday, November 14th.  The following locations will be collecting donations:  Big Bear City and Big Bear Lake Fire Departments, both branches of First Mountain Bank, the Hallmark Store, US Forestry, Discovery Center, Union Bank, Starbucks, Phil’s Automotive, Doucette CPA Office, CVS, Kmart, Senior Center, Grizzly office, Grizzly Manor Café, St. Columbas Church, and the Public Library.  Families who are interested in receiving gifts for their children need to register with the Kiwanis Club on November 20th, December 4th, and December 10th at the Fellowship Hall at the Big Bear United Methodist Church on North Shore and Holden from 2-5pm.  For more information about the program call...
