'tis the season to share our abundance
Our local firefighters’ association wasn’t the only group giving their holiday weekend in service of others. The volunteers of the United Methodist Church also shared in the holiday spirit, by serving a full Thanksgiving dinner—and on Thanksgiving Day—to families and individuals in need. The church served approximately 80 members of our community during the Thanksgiving celebration, as an extension of their Thursday Simple Suppers, offered each second and fourth Thursday for many months now. The next offering by the United Methodist Church, available to all in need of nourishment, will be on Thursday, December 10, from 5 to 7pm. The program will even continue on this month’s fourth Thursday, which happens to fall on Christmas Eve; on December 24, UMC will, rather than dinner, serve dessert at 5:30pm, which will be followed by their church service at 7pm. For more information on the Simple Suppers at United Methodist Church, located at 1001 Holden Avenue at North Shore Drive in Big Bear City, call 585-4089. Volunteers and donations are also welcomed.
Update as of 12/9: This Thursday’s Simple Supper has been canceled, in anticipation of severe weather.
