Tree Split In Half From Lightning Stike

Big Bear City, Ca, October 20, 2010, 12:00pm - Last night at approximately 6pm, Big Bear City Fire Department crews responded to a reported vegetation fire at Mitchell and Tuplin in the Erwin Lake area.  Upon arrival, crews found that a large pine tree had been struck by lightning, split the tree in the middle, and ignited.  It took about 30 minutes and 500 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.  The property owner was at home when this strike and fire occurred and called 9-1-1 to report the fire.  There were no injuries, and no threat to structures occurred.
