All local fire agencies are battling small fires due to multiple lighting downstrikes – a common occurrence during summer thunderstorms in the mountains.
Areas hit Saturday include Bertha Peak in Holcomb Valley, east Erwin Lake, three individual fires north of Seven Oaks and Mentone, which closed Highway 38 for several hours. The CHP estimates Route 38 will reopen at 7:00pm Saturday, July 25.
