The New Year's Eve torchlight parade at Snow Summit gets started at 7pm.

Today is a beautiful day to hit the slopes, given additional snowmaking overnight and sunshine in the forecast, and both Snow Summit and Bear Mountain resorts offer half-day session, starting at noon. Snow Summit also offers night session, starting at 3pm, and half-night session, starting at 7pm and extending until 9:30pm. And whether or not you plan to ski or ride today, you’ll want to enjoy the annual New Year’s Eve torchlight parade at Summit, which gets underway at 7pm. The torchlight is a Big Bear tradition, as the lights go down on the resort, and Big Bear Mountain Resorts staff serpentine down the eastern slopes with torchlights, making for a great visual, either from the base of the mountain or from other areas in the Big Bear Valley, including the North Shore of Big Bear Lake. Night session at Summit extends through January 2 and, given the holiday weekend, lift ticket reservations are recommended via BigBearMountainResorts.com.
Update: Last night’s New Year’s Eve torchlight parade included a record 350 skiers and snowboarders from the Big Bear Mountain Resorts staff. Happy 2010!
