In the last week, we have shared with you the benefits of shopping locally during this holiday season. As, per a national campaign billed as The 3/50 Project, for every $100 spent at local, independently owned retailers, $68 returns to the community–whereas $100 spent in a national chain (located here) only brings a local return of $43 and, for $100 spent online, nothing comes home to Big Bear. In furthering the “shop local” effort, the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce will host a special Shop Big Bear Holiday Showcase during Thursday’s Power Breakfast. Attendees to the 7am breakfast at the Best Western Big Bear Chateau (at the Moonridge Y) will have the opportunity to purchase unique gift items from 12 local businesses during the morning networking event. Cost for the Chamber’s Power Breakfast is $12 for Chamber members and $15 for guests; for those who plan to Shop Big Bear, the Chamber encourages you to bring cash or checks to the December 3 event.
