Run the Bear Marathon and Sister City Program on the Agenda for This Evening’s City Council Meeting

Big Bear Lake’s City Council meets for their second regular meeting of the month this evening at 6pm in Hofert Hall in the Civic Center. The Lighthouse Project is scheduled to make a presentation on last September’s Run the Bear Marathon and, in Action Items, Council’s one agendized discussion is with regard to the Sister City program. Since 1984, Big Bear Lake has been the official “Friendship City” to Rosarito Beach, Mexico, while, also since 1984, has been the “Sister City” to Abtenau, Austria. City Council meetings are open to the public.

In July 2007, Big Bear families hosted 13 students (pictured here, with local friends) from Abtenau, Austria through the Sister City Summer Exchange Program; some Big Bear Middle School students were given an opportunity to spend a few weeks in Austria this past summer. Local youth have been participating in this program since 1989, when the Snow Summit Junior Race Team went to Abtenau to compete in a friendly Sister City Olympics.
