Potential for Extended Delays on Highway 18 at the Dam Today

If taking Highway 18 west beyond the dam today (October 21), just know that current delays are longer than usual as crews are removing a large rock, referred to as “the can opener rock.” Delays at the dam bridge are generally 15 to 20 minutes, and will continue weekdays from 7am to 5pm, to accommodate the Big Bear bridge project, scheduled for completion in 2011. But, again, today’s delays have the potential to be a bit longer, so other options for leaving the mountain are the eastern routes, Highway 38 through Angelus Oaks and Highway 18 through the Lucerne Valley.
