Big Bear Lake, CA, September 11, 2013 —  Southern California’s #1 rated Oktoberfest returns to the Big Bear Lake Convention Center with American’s Hero weekend.  On Saturday, September 14 free admission will be offered to all past and present military and their immediate families, as well as firefighters and law enforcement.  Opening festivities include a special tribute to all those that put their lives on the line.  The festival closes on Saturday, October 26 with the annual costume contests for both adults and children.

The expanded Spaten Bier Garten will offer live entertainment every Saturday night, more seating, and a full line-up of Spaten beer.  Bands include local bands, top California bands including German band The Express, as well as the NEW Mainfloesser Band from Germany. The NEW Mainfloesser performed at the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest in 2011 to a roaring success.  A variety of dance groups will also make return appearances, including the Cripple Creek Cloggers, Danube Swabain Dancers and Big Bear’s own Polka Tots.

On two additional Friday nights this year, attendees can get an inside look into the history of Oktoberfest while enjoying a five-course German dinner paired with a variety of German beers and spirits.  Entertainment includes story telling by the Uber-Burgermeister and founder of Oktoberfest, Hans Bandows, as well as several of Oktoberfest’s key personalities.  Other Oktoberfest festivities include carnival games, bounce houses, a mechanical bull, arts and crafts vendors and a variety of free contests.
