Big Bear, Ca, January 20, 2011, 8:00am – CalTrans has announced that beginning Monday January 31st, a portion of Highway, often referred to as “The Narrows”, near the Crestline area will be closed from 8:30am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday to remove boulders and debris that have collected in the “netted” debris flow areas along that section of Highway. According to CalTrans, the maintenance work is necessary to alleviate stress on the debris flow systems in preparation for future storms over the winter. Maintenance crews hope to have the work completed by February 11th. Motorists are advised to use Crest Forest Drive through Crestline as a detour around the closure. CHP will be onsite to assist with the detour. Motorists are advised to follow all signage, verbal instructions given by CHP/workers, and drive slowly and carefully near the work zone.
