Hiker Dies After Fall On Castle Rock Trail

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 6, 2012, noon – A man hiking near Boulder Bay died Thursday after falling and hitting his head. According to Tiffany Swantek at the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, just before noon on Thursday, July 5 a 57-year-old white male hiker from Shadow Hills, California was with a group of people, and fell on Castle Rock Trail. The victim hit his head on a rock. Paramedics responded to the location, about ½ of a mile up the trail and began administering CPR, but they were unable to save the hiker, who was pronounced dead at 12:38pm. A Forestry Crew with equipment extracted the body from the scene of the accident and the Coroner was notified. The name of the man has not yet been released.
