Kiwanis International of Big Bear Valley has purchased an important tool for identifying residents that need assistance. It is an “Emergency Beacon” light bulb. Residents can replace their porch light bulbs with this Emergency Beacon. In normal use, the Emergency Beacon bulb works like a regular light bulb. In an emergency, simply turn your light switch off and on twice to activate the flashing Emergency Beacon. As responding emergency vehicles arrive, they will be able to identify the location quickly by the flashing porch light. The Emergency Beacon aids Emergency Response Personnel in locating your home when every second counts.
The Emergency Beacon Bulbs can be purchased at the Big Bear City Fire Department. The cost is $20 per bulb, with proceeds going directly to Kiwanis International of Big Bear Valley.
The Big Bear City Fire Department is in full support of this important tool in helping emergency responders locate the correct residence when someone is in need. Additionally, residents are reminded to post their house numbers clearly with a minimum four inch numbers, visible from the street, and are contrasting with their background. Address numbers should also be illuminated during periods of darkness.
