Local surfer Pat Allen takes a wave at San Onofre

The Big Bear Surf Club, which meets monthly and surfs all over Southern California in group field trips, hosted their second annual surf contest this past weekend. Over 35 surfers from the Big Bear Valley participated in the full-day event at San Onofre State Beach and some of the proceeds from the accompanying raffle are slated to benefit the Surfrider Foundation. On August 8, the following mountain surfers took the top prizes in the Big Bear Surf Club event: in the beginners category, top surfer was Jake Huxman, runner-up Devin Allen; in the women’s division, Janell Moore took top honors, runner-up was Cassie Talbot; in the open category, top surfer was Justin Karrer, runner-up was Matt Rohn; and in the masters, Bob Erickson was crowned the master, while runner-up was Larry Oleson.
