Cubs Cross-Country Teams Run to an Impressive Finish in League; Girls JV Team Takes Second

It seems the Cubs cross-country team of Big Bear Middle School was just getting up and running but their season with the High Desert Athletic League has already wrapped following this past Saturday’s meet. Out of 11 teams in their league, Big Bear’s seventh and eighth grade runners placed in four categories: BBMS varsity boys took sixth overall in league, varsity girls placed third, JV boys also took third, and the JV girls, all in seventh grade, ran their way to a second place league title. Cubs Coach Tracy Tokunaga notes that eight BBMS runners took home individual medals: those went to Rachael DesRochers (7th in varsity girls), Caleb Webb (2nd in JV boys), Trenton Rochelle (5th in JV boys), Reed Leong (9th in JV boys), Marcela Pfeifer (6th in JV girls), Zoe Gustason (7th in JV girls), Hannah Wijnhammer (9th in JV girls), and Taylor Waner (10th in JV girls). Congratulations, Cubs!

The seventh and eighth grade runners on the BBMS cross-country team also made a big showing at this month's Run the Bear Marathon event, many of them running in the 5K.
