Crews Fight “Mill Fire” off Highway 38 (Corrected)

San Bernardino National Forest, CA, June 28, 2013 – At around 2:00 p.m. Friday, the CHP reported a fire on a hillside near the junction of Route 38 and Bryant Street.  Official say there are no threats to homes or the forest at this time, but Caltrans reports there is a closure from Garnet Road to Bryant Street in Mentone. Motorists are still allowed to travel down the mountain from Big Bear; a detour has been set up at the bottom of the mountain.

The blaze — named the Mill Fire – is burning south of the Mill Creek Ranger Station on Greenspot Road in Mentone. As of 3:15, it has covered about 75 acres, with a moderate rate of spread.
