It was a year ago today that Lake Patrol and firefighters ventured out on to the lake ice, to save a stray golden retriever on Big Bear Lake. Since surviving the incident, he was dubbed “Buck the Wonder Dog” and adopted by Citizens on Patrol volunteers Dave and Joan Younkin. Today, the Municipal Water District’s Travis Carroll tells us, Buck the Wonder Dog made a visit to the MWD offices, to thank them for saving his life. Prompted by this story with a happy ending, Carroll says, “I would just like to remind everybody to keep their pets on a leash when near lake ice.” For people who venture out on to the lake ice, the fine for doing so is $500.
