A bike ride turned fatal in the East Valley over the weekend. At approximately 7pm on Saturday (July 18), Sugarloaf resident Cassidy Bennett, age 35, was riding his bicycle on the 500 block of Maple Lane a couple hundred feet south of Barton Lane when, per the San Bernardino County Coroner’s report, a gust of wind knocked his hat in front of his face. Bennett drifted to the side of the roadway and fell into a drainage ditch, striking his head. Bennett was found unresponsive by paramedics, and was pronounced dead at Bear Valley Community Hospital at 7:37pm. Services have yet to be announced. A friend of Bennett’s tells KBHR that “he died doing what he loved.”
